Pre Re-Readathon Re-Reads!

If you follow me on twitter you're probably sick to death of me talking about the Re-Readathon by now, but I've been so ridiculously excited about it that when I posted my potential TBR for people's votes the other day I decided I couldn't wait to re-read some of the books on it so I've got a head start and read some already!

Although I obviously loved all of these books enough first time to want to re-read them I apparently never talked about any of them here on the blog, so you can hear my second impressions for the first time.

Also before we start you should know that I have a giveaway going on at the moment. To be entered for a chance to win a book of your choice (open internationally) all you have to do is tweet or instagram your favourite or most anticipated re-reads using #rereadathon. You do not have to be participating in Re-Readathon 4 to enter this giveaway!

It was sort of inevitable that I was going to re-read Anna and Lola as soon as I put Lola on my TBR and people started telling me to read it. These books are so super sweet and butterfly inducing. I actually don't think I've read better accounts of what falling in love feels like ever, and I particularly love that they're companion novels so Anna and Etienne are characters in the second book. I can't believe that I don't own and haven't read the third book, Isla and the Happily Ever After yet, but I guess that just means there's more goodness to come!

Anna and the French Kiss is (shockingly, I know) about a girl called Anna whose father makes her move to Paris for her final year of high school. Once at school she falls in with a group of awesome people, including ridiculously good looking (although he is short. I love that his shortness is constantly referred to, like he needed to have some kind of a flaw) and unavailable St Clair (whose first name is Etienne but nobody calls him that) and the novel is pretty much the story of Anna's year in Paris. It is gorgeous. Anna is quirky and awesome and really into movies and I still love all her friends and the whole thing with St Clair is just amazing. The ending still made me squeal, I have no idea why I got rid of my copy of this book.

Lola and the Boy Next Door is (again, shockingly) about a girl called Lola and what happens when Cricket Bell, the boy next door, comes back into her life. Lola is also pretty awesome and wants to be a costume designer. Although I do dislike her penchant for wig-wearing I still find her a very real and relatable character, and plus as mentioned above Anna is in this book too, more as the older, wiser friend which I really enjoyed. This is a similarly different sort of love story and equally butterfly and squeal inducing. If you want something to make you happy this summer these books will do it! Stephanie Perkins is a genius.

Finally, although it was actually the first of the three that I re-read, Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson was the first of her books that I read and one of the reasons I finally stopped turning my nose up at YA. Thanks Morgan Matson! It's a road trip book which I super love, and also has some butterfly moments. Amy has to drive her mothers car across the country but she can't get behind the wheel, so Roger, the son of a family friend is enlisted. They take a trip together which doesn't go exactly as her mother planned in many ways! My favourite thing about Amy is her love of musical theatre - seriously, there aren't enough musical loving characters in fiction. But generally I love how much of a feature music is in this book. It touches on some difficult stuff, but overall it's a pretty light (and great) read.

I can't decide whether to stick with this light and easy trend for the Re-Readathon itself or go for some of the heavier nonfiction now I've cleansed my palate with this lot! If you'd like to join us for 10 days of re-reading plus a twitter chat, giveaways and challenges, sign up here. We start August 10th.

As always, title links are affiliate and go to Wordery - an independent online bookseller who ship FOR FREE around the world. I completely love them and would endorse them anytime, anywhere, regardless of whether or not they paid me, but since they're willing to give me a little commission I'd love it if you'd use my links to make any purchases - it costs you nothing & enables me to buy treats (probably books, let's face it) for my kids! If you want to shop for other stuff there's another link at the top of the left hand sidebar that you can use. Thankyou!

  1. I recently read Isla and the Happy Ever After! Anna and the French Kiss will always be my favourite, I think. I felt like there was something missing with Lola and Isla. Must have been the newness of the series, maybe. ^_^

I'm really excited to read Epic Detour as well! I've been really into travel and road trip books lately, so it's high on my list to buy.

  2. Wow, is it re-read-a-thon time again already!? This year's going so quickly.

I do want to join in but I've been a terrible blogger lately. I have been a great re-reader though, so I'm with you in spirit :)
