Welcome to A Way into YA; a series of guest posts where some lovely YA loving bloggers will give you their best recommendations and try to get you to love YA as much as they do! If you've always wanted to give it a go but have been overwhelmed by the amount of choice then hopefully this week will help you find a place to start!
I hope you've had a chance to check out the posts we've already featured this week. If not go ahead and catch up, we'll wait!
Today's guest blogger is Ninnie of Bookaholic Babe who is going to recommend a few of her favourite books from all genres. She has also provided links to her reviews of the books so you can check out more about them if you'd like to.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
This is one of the
heavier YA books out there, told through the eyes of Death and it follows the
life of a young girl living in Nazi Germany.
I love, love, love
this book! It is one of my favourite YA books and I love that it is so
different. It’s not your usual YA book and that’s what makes it all the better.
You get to see a country in the beginnings of turmoil from the eyes of an
ethereal being and that makes it all the more bittersweet.
At the end of the
day, this isn’t just a book of Death and the horror of the world. It’s about a
small girl’s journey through the world of war. If you want a YA book that will
be beautifully written and makes you think this is the perfect choice for you.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
If you want to know
who the king of YA is, it’s John Green (at least for me) his books are so
amazing and I loved The Fault In Our Stars the most. It’s such a stunning and
heart-breaking story but John tells it so well.
This book is such an
amazing read but be warned, you’ll need tissues! If you want to read something
in the YA genre that will show you the beauty of a young relationship that
helps two young people through one of the toughest experiences someone can go
through this is the book for you.
I connected to this
book on such an emotional level since I know someone who suffered from the same
cancer one of the characters in this book suffers from.
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
When I first picked
this book up and started to read it I thought, “oh I know where this is
heading” but I was so wrong!
This is a stunning
book told from the POV of a young girl watching herself in a hospital and
needing to decide whether she wants to survive or not. During this time she
watches her family and friends visit her bedside willing her to live.
This book really is a
interesting read, I had never read anything like it before and I really enjoyed
it. It could be too heavy but the author gets it just right and you want to
keep reading to know what is going to happen.
Giveaway!
Because she's amazing, Ninnie also has a book to give one of you lovely readers! You can win a paperback copy of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, as raved about above. All you have to do is fill in the form below by the end of the week (it will close when the event does - on Sunday evening). Open internationally!
Another post of great recommendations! I've actually read two out of three and Gayle Forman has been on my radar for a while so I'll be getting to If I Stay in the near future. Today's post also has the bonus of featuring all books which have been made into movies, so if you loved the book you can watch the movie!
Don't forget to check back tomorrow for the last of my guest posts this week! Following that there will be more awesome YA bookishness until Sunday including a giveaway and my own recommendations.

I've read the first two; LOVED The Book Thief, hated TFioS (but only because the dialogue was terribly and unrealistically pretentious). I've been hearing great things about If I Stay, so I'll have to check that one out asap!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same! The Book Thief was incredible and I haven't read If I Stay yet but want to! TFioS was my least favourite John Green book, mostly because there was so much hype when I read it I think!
DeleteJust one book to recommend??? Cinder by Marissa Meyer. That series is epic.
ReplyDeleteBut if I can mention reading anything by Sarah J. Maas, then I would put that out there too. :-)
Yes! I'm reading Scarlet right now and I love this series!! Sarah J Maas is epic too. I read Throne of Glass without meaning to and I'm so so addicted now.
DeleteIt would have to be the Harry Potter books.
ReplyDeleteAll great choices to introduce readers to YA books!
