It really is the little things that make a difference - for good or bad - when you're in that place of despair.

Likewise, it's definitely true that by the very end nothing anyone says or does can really make the difference. Having come waaaaay too close for comfort earlier this year - the equivalent of standing on the edge of the cliff with one foot dangling into thin air - I can say from experience that once you're in that absolute 'end of the line' mental place, the walls have closed in and your focus is so NARROW that the only person who can really stop you is yourself. There's just you and death and this sort of void in between, and everyone else kind of fades into the background. People can help all along the way, definitely, and they should never stop trying to get through, but once you hit that end point, it can become an entirely personal battle that only you can win or lose. I won, this time. If someone loses, it's no one's fault, and it doesn't make them a weak person. It means the balance tipped too far and their coping resources burnt out.

OKAY DEEP MOMENT OVER. The point is, I think I'll appreciate the story, and anything that raises awareness and helps people understand suicide and the things that lead up to someone making that drastic decision has to be a good thing.Elliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07246472269477492583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3246380981479604275.post-69549790513862142022014-06-10T19:42:39.471+01:002014-06-10T19:42:39.471+01:00I have this one on my e-reader, and I keep circlin...I have this one on my e-reader, and I keep circling around it without reading it. Part of me was hoping she was actually still alive somewhere and just helping them all to realise the errors of their ways, kind of like Scrooge and the ghosts in A Christmas Carol, even though that wouldn't have done the story justice at all! anarmchairbytheseahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14593618746095559894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3246380981479604275.post-24086715768037728982014-06-08T20:43:55.481+01:002014-06-08T20:43:55.481+01:00What a fantastic review! I found, as Clay was listening to the tapes, that I was hoping SOMEONE would see and do something before it was too late, even though I already knew it was. It was difficult to read how Hannah was feeling, knowing that she didn't get the help she needed. So sad. But such an amazing story!
